My approach

Self-discovery through open conversation

My work is primarily psychodynamic and psychoanalytic. Therapy is a place to understand yourself more fully and grow emotionally, and no topic is off limits.

We might talk about relationships, sexuality, dreams, fantasies, anger or anxiety. Often we end up looking at the unconscious motives behind decisions you make and patterns that keep repeating.

How you relate to others

Much of what shapes a life happens between people. We look at the recurring patterns in how you relate to partners, friends, family and colleagues, so you can build connections that feel more authentic.

The ways we protect ourselves

Everyone has automatic ways of keeping painful feelings at a distance. Many of these defenses made sense once but no longer help. Therapy helps you notice them and loosen their grip, which leaves you more emotionally flexible.

Couples work

With couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based approach. Partners learn to recognize the cycle they get caught in, understand the needs underneath it, and respond to each other differently.

What sessions look like

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Weekly or more frequent 45 to 50 minute sessions, in person or by video.
  • Couples Therapy: Joint sessions, in person or by video.
  • Group Therapy: A small ongoing group. Ask about current openings.
